Within just a 30 minute drive in any direction you have access to SO MANY fun places to see & do…from jaw-dropping world class horse farms, to quaint restaurants with outside seating, quirky antique stores, historical towns and historic landmarks…not to mention bats, elephants, butterflies and alligators!

HERE’S OUR STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS…

CEDAR LAKES & WOODS

23 minutes West in Williston. Expect to spend a couple hours exploring the top AND bottom of the quarry…it’s so interesting that the time will go by very quickly. You’ll definitely want to be sure your camera is charged for taking pictures! For more information CLICK HERE

TWO TAILS RANCH

25 minutes West in Williston. This elephant preserve has been in the family for seven generations! Limited number of visitors so we recommend you call & reserve your place a couple days in advance. Great presentation on elephants. Other animals there to see. Very little walking involved. For more information CLICK HERE

TWO HAWK HAMMOCK

22 minutes West in Williston. Every Sat 4p-8p is Happy Hour in the barnyard. Live music. ($5/person). Great for the entire family! Bring a lawn chair. Trapeze flights with Gainesville Circus Center. Lots of fun! For more information CLICK HERE

DEVIL'S DEN

22 minutes West in Williston. Great place to snorkel or scuba dive. Expect to spend 1-2 hrs. They rent snorkel gear if you don’t have your own. Close to Two Tails, Two Hawk Hammock and Cedar Lakes & Woods. It can get pretty busy so we recommend you go early. Two hidden gems for food in Williston are Sister’s Cafe for lunch and Flamingo Freeze for dessert. CLICK HERE

HISTORIC MICANOPY

12 minutes North. Fun short visit with antique shops, historic museum, and the Herlong Mansion. Our staff recommends having a light lunch (and most definitely dessert) at Coffee ‘n Cream right there in town. For more information on Historic Micanopy (pronounced mick-an-o’-pee) CLICK HERE

PAYNES PRAIRIE STATE PARK

14 minutes North in Micanopy. Expect to spend about an hour unless you decide to hike some of the trails or picnic by the lake. Perfect for combining with Historic Micanopy. Paved trails to ranger station, washroom facilities, and 3-story tower overlooking Paynes Prairie. Bring field glasses with you as there’s a chance you’ll see wild horses and other animals roaming the prairies. For more information CLICK HERE

LA CHUA TRAIL

28 minutes North in Gainesvile. While it’s a bit further to go it’s highly recommended. Rarely have we found this hidden gem busy, yet on a hot sunny day it’s THE best place to see alligators in their natural habitat lining the river banks. Summer rains may result in closing the walk beyond the boardwalk due to flood conditions. No dogs allowed and highly recommended small children are not left on their own. DEPOT PARK

26 minutes North in Gainesvile. Perfect in combination with a trip to La Chua Trail and right next door to the Cade Museum. A fun place to take the kids for fun & arcade games but great for adults as well. Both food and liquor venues here with a nice outdoor open pavillion for eating. For more information CLICK HERE

ANTIQUE EMPORIUM

Only a 3 minute drive from the RV resort and open daily from 10am-6pm. You would have passed the Antique Emporium as you turned onto Hwy 225 after exiting I-75. Lots of fun things to see throughout the 17,000 square foot facility! For more information CLICK HERE

ANTIQUE CITY MALL

9 minutes North in Micanopy. Good in combination with a trip to Historic Micanopy or Paynes Prairie State Park. If you enjoy antiques, you’ll find a wide vaiety of them and a great colection of items not normally found in your traditional antique store. For more information CLICK HERE

ZIP THE CANYONS

15 minutes South in Ocala. If ziplining is your thing, then Zip the Canyons is a fantastic experience! Highlight is the Big Cliff Canyon taking you on an 1,100’ zip across Lost Spring Lake! You wouldn’t think you’d find quarry cliffs this high in Florida, but you’ll be amazed! For more information CLICK HERE

KANAPAHA BOTANICAL GARDENS

22 minutes North in Gainesville. Expect to spend around 2 hrs in this 68 acre botanical garden with 1.5 miles of paved walkways. Easy walking with benches and gazebos along the way for resting. Picnic baskets welcome and is dog-friendly. For more information CLICK HERE

UNIV. OF FL BAT HOUSES

25 minutes north in Gainesville. Who would have thought that a hot summer night with lots of mosquitoes is the perfect place to be out ANYWHERE? Well, bring your long sleeve shirt and pants and your mosquito repellent for a Disney-like experience watching thousands of bats exiting their daytime residence.
